The visual identity of Shovel Out started with concept art - defining the look of characters, environments and the overall noir aesthetic of Hotel Cotard. These concepts served as the visual blueprint for the entire game, guiding 3D modeling, level art and marketing materials.

// My Role

  • Character concepts - design sheets for main characters (Sleazy, Sindy, The Boss), enemy types (Skeletons, Zombies, Ghosts) and NPCs.
  • Environment concepts - mood boards and paintover sketches for key locations in Hotel Cotard.
  • Key art - promotional illustrations used for Steam page, social media and marketing.
  • Visual development - establishing the game's color palette, lighting mood and overall art direction.
